Netflix: Now watch 4K HDR videos in macOS 11 Big Sur Safari browser

According to the latest report, Users who want to stream Netflix content in 4K HDR through the macOS Big Sur operating system will need a Mac equipped with the Apple T2 security chip.

Video streaming App Netflix has recently updated a help center page with a new guide on viewing 4K HDR content in Safari on macOS Big Sur also mentioned the required software and hardware details.

Some 2018 or later Mac computers with Apple T2 security chip are compatible with 4K content. In addition, all external displays must have 60Hz 4K capability and a connection that complies with HDCP 2.2.

Netflix did not explain why the Mac needs a T2 chip to play 4K HDR content. The chip does integrate many key controllers, such as the system’s image signal processor and audio controller, which have been proven to have a moderate improvement in video encoding.

Apple pointed out in the support document that HDR video playback is limited to 2018 or later MacBook Pro models, 2018 or later MacBook Air models, 2020 iMac, iMac Pro, 2018 Mac mini, and Mac Pro, and 4K only Limited to iMac and iMac Pro models.
