The Xiaomi camera is about to get even smarter

The camera on the smartphone is an increasingly useful tool, and not just for taking photos and videos, and Xiaomi has understood this well. By itself, the smartphone makes sense of existing just as a multi-use tool, and the days when it was a mere telephone medium are long gone. You also want an internet today like never before based on content. The smartphone is a real multimedia machine, where photos and videos are the order of the day. This is demonstrated by the fact that Xiaomi has long since introduced text recognition in its MIUI and is now preparing to make it even more powerful.

As some of you will remember, for some years, the possibility of recognizing text has been introduced in the MIUI Gallery app; in this way, you can open any image saved in your memories and extract the text as if it were a text file, being able to copy and paste it elsewhere. Well, as the insider Kacper Skrzypek reports, the MIUI team is preparing to introduce this function within the Camera app itself.

It’s called ” Real-time Text Extraction” and, while we don’t have a concrete preview yet, it should work just like it does on the latest versions of iOS. Real-time text recognition is very convenient because it does not require you to take a photo and go and fish it in the gallery but to act directly from the Camera app. Once the subject is framed, let’s imagine that an icon will appear to activate this mode and give a quick preview of the image from which to extract the text. However, it will be necessary to understand if and when this novelty will be included in MIUI, and above all, if it will also be made compatible with the Italian language (for now it only works with English and Chinese).
