Google will start naming Android OEMs that use unsafe software

According to MSPoweruser, Google’s security researchers will investigate bugs in the software attached to Android OEM phones such as Huawei, ZTE and Samsung. This new program is called the “Android Partner Vulnerability Initiative (APVI)”, which will enable Google’s Android Security and Privacy Team to investigate and disclose bugs in OEM software.

Google said: “APVI covers issues that Google has discovered that may affect the security of Android devices or their users”. The team has discovered and reported many vulnerabilities to the OEM, but not all vulnerabilities have been fixed.

This program complements other programs such as the Android Security Reward Program (ASR) and the Google Play Security Reward Program, which contribute to the Android Security Bulletin (ASB), which ultimately leads to the monthly Android Security Patch Level (SPL).
