Facebook Messenger: Acquires security features via Face ID and Touch ID

Facebook has invested heavily in recent years to ensure the best possible security for its users’ data. One of the latest efforts of the platform is to add compatibility with Face ID and Touch ID on Facebook Messenger.

The new security setting

A new feature in the Facebook Messenger app allows you to lock the app using Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. When the application is locked, the user can reply to messages and calls from the notifications that appear on the smartphone screen.

In addition, the user is able to choose how long Facebook will be locked. In fact, the company has added options to lock the app after 1 minute, 15 minutes, an hour, or immediately, as soon as the user closes it.

Data protection and availability

According to the company, the data used by Facebook Messenger for locking and unlocking is not transferred to its servers but is stored on the user’s device.

Currently, the feature is available to a small number of iOS users, and we do not know when it will be widely available. However, as soon as the company completes the tests, it will release the new feature in both the Messenger version for iOS and Android.
