Facebook app: Upcoming update will bring dark mode and update for Coronavirus tracker

With OLED screens being adopted by most smartphone makers, especially flagships, many popular apps have begun offering the so-called dark mode. It seems that Facebook, although belatedly, is getting ready to dress in black.

The 9to5Google website had the opportunity to try an almost final version of the Facebook app for Android, which gives us a first taste of the night mode. The app runs on Google Apps, with the theme not being so black but dark gray, combined with a lighter gray for icons and posts. The background shows the black shade, although minimal.

Let’s not forget that OLED screens, in addition to saving battery when they are black as they completely turn off the pixels, consume less and when the content is quite a dark gray. So, even so, the new app will consume significantly less battery than previous versions.

Another feature is the redesign of the UI of the “Your Time on Facebook” setting. Now, the options will be divided into grids, in contrast to the vertical menu that currently exists in the application. In addition, there will be the option to mute notifications via Quiet Mode, which is still the case but buried in the settings.

Finally, it seems that the continuous updating of the COVID-19 cases will be integrated into the application. There, users will be able to be informed separately about the cases in their city or country, but also globally. We do not know when all of the above will be available, although the version is almost final.
