SpaceX New Contract: Launching British Skynet with Falcon 9 in 2025

Yeah! here comes the SpaceX biggest news, according to the information, SpaceX has won a contract to launch Skynet in the UK in 2025 using its Falcon 9 rocket. Skynet is the Skynet 6A spacecraft planned by the United Kingdom and is the country’s military communications satellite. Falcon 9 will carry it to the geostationary transfer orbit and begin the transition to the new network architecture, upgrade the ground system and replace the satellite contractor. The project will cost approximately US$700 million.

Skynet was previously jointly built by British Aerospace, Marconi Aerospace and (EADS) Astrim from 1974 to 2012. Prior to this, the United Kingdom chose Airbus Space to produce Skynet 6A.

Although it is technically a new contractor for the plan, Airbus Defense and Space (Airbus Defense and Space) reorganized the European Aviation Defense and Space Company (EADS) in 2014.

The United Kingdom awarded Airbus a production contract in mid-2020, which will begin production of Skynet 6A in October 2021. Although several major milestones have not yet been achieved, Airbus said the satellite is still expected to be launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida in 2025 on a Falcon 9 rocket .
