Salah fires Liverpool into Champions League

Yesterday, Mohamed Salah scored a solo goal and goalkeeper Alisson Becker produced a crucial late save allowing  Liverpool to beat Napoli 1-0 in the Champions League’s knockout stage at the expense of the Italian side.

Liverpool knew that a 1-0 win, or a victory by two or more goals would be enough to seal a top-two spot in Group C, and Salah was again the hero for the hosts as he scored what proved to be the winner with a magical individual burst in the 34th minute. The English team looks good to go and better than the last season performance, when it lost in the final to Real Madrid.

Salah shook off one defender, drifted past another and delivered a low finish inside the near post from an acute angle for the winning goal. The outcome caused Napoli had to settle for third place and dropping into the Europa League for the second straight season.

When the final matchday of the Champions League group stage began, quite a few giants stood a chance of an early exit. The most tangled group of them all is C where three of the four teams stood a chance of progressing to the Round of 16.

It really would have been Liverpool missing out as Napoli pressed for a leveller during the second half, with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson denying Arkadiusz Milik in stoppage time with a superb save, but the home side's resolute defence stood firm to the intense relief of the home fans.

Kalidou Koulibaly had been doing a fine job of marking Salah, until the Egyptian changed the game and produced a moment of magic as he scored the only goal of the game, skipping past Koulibaly before slotting in from a tight angle —his 34th goal for Liverpool in 2018 in all competitions.

Liverpool manager, Juergen Klopp admitted to the fact that the game was just amazing and that the boys played with the whole of their hearts on the pitch.
