Play store is flooded with fake apps, Claimed Quick Heal

When it comes to installing android apps on our smartphone the first source comes to mind is google play, Google's app store for Android, but what if someone tells you that play store is flooded with fake apps with more than 50,000 downloads and 4+ rating.

"These applications appear to be genuine as a PDF reader, PDF Downloader, PDF Scanner etc., but don't have such functionality," This was quoted by Rupali  Parate, an Android malware analyst at quick heal in her blog post here.

This app plays tricks to install and rate other sponsored apps.  when the user installs these apps, it asks to download and rate some app on play store to unlock the feature of the app, and for next 24 hours the user can use this features, but after 24 hours user has to do it again.

All the intention of this kind of app is to increase the number of downloads and rating on sponsored apps.  to prevent  promoting such kind of apps on apps

"Users should be careful while downloading such fake applications. The user can easily recognise it by going through review," Parate added in her Blog post.

Most of these apps are pdf readers,  pdf converters, pdf scanners, pdf book readers and other similar apps like this.
