OnePlus CEO reveals the OnePlus 8 series will all be 5G enabled

OnePlus has confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 8 series will all be 5G enabled. Speaking exclusively to CNET, Pete Lau, the OnePlus CEO, and co-founder explained that “going forward, we’re all in on 5G”. It means the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro will both be 5G enabled.

If you want 5G support, you need to be ready with the wallet with the $1,000 (estimated).

“We’ve always had a position in creating the best product possible at the best price point,” Lau said. “The new technology does add costs, so costs have risen in comparison to 4G products.”

The OnePlus 8 series with 5G support will very likely be more expensive than the OnePlus 7 and 7T series.

“Last year we launched the 7 Pro and the 7 together and there was a lot of excitement around this,” Lau said. “I think that this year again everyone should expect a lot to look forward to in 5G products at a reasonable price.”

CEO Lau said it’s likely we will see a more expensive OnePlus 8 “Pro” version and a regular OnePlus 8 with more modest specs with an accessible price tag.

OnePlus is expected to launch its next generation of smartphones in April, although an official date is yet to be confirmed.
