Official end to Google+, re-branded to Currents for iOS and Android

Following the scandal over the leak of user information, Google started in 2018 the gradual cessation of Google+, due to low mobility and security problems. The company started deleting user accounts in April 2019 and has now officially died.

As of today, iOS and Android applications appear as Google Currents of G Suite, with the platform remaining the same but now only for corporate customers and providing the corresponding business management tools. The existing links of plus.google.com now operate under the URL currents.google.com and in general, the experience remains exactly the same. The UI remains the same, with the difference that the stream will be updated in time or in relative terms, but the posts by the company’s executives will look more intense. The biggest difference remains in the logo, where the old Google+ logo has been replaced by a new one, like blue waves, in the design standards of Google’s material design.

The app is already available in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, with an unwarranted explosion of a star rating from users who are not happy with this rebrand, although the app has been out of use for almost a year now.

Google+ features – Circles are like categories for your connections so that you can share updates selectively with different groups. Examples of such groups might include family, friends, office colleagues, and people that you share a particular interest with. Circles may be discrete or have overlap, so that, for example, someone you work with who’s also in your book club will get updates for both groups. Users outside a circle can see a list of member names but not the name of the circle.
