Intel acknowledges lagging behind rival TSMC: catch up with at least 2 years

Intel’s Chief Financial Officer George Davis admitted to investors at a Morgan Stanley meeting that Intel was behind competitors and that it would take at least two years to catch up.

Intel is still struggling to make a 10nm process, rival TSMC has adopted a 7nm process and is moving towards a 5nm process.

Davis said that this difference will mean that 10nm processors will not be as productive for Intel as previous generations.

The analyst day on May 19: This is not just the best node ever made by Intel. Although its output will be lower than 14nm and 22nm, we are very excited about the improvements we see Excited, we expect better performance in the 7nm era. ”

Intel aims to address its insufficient performance through platform-level improvements, including tight hardware integration in AI and software.

Intel hopes to catch up with TSMC by the end of 2021, but TSMC has not stagnated. It hopes to adopt the 3nm process by the end of 2022.
