For some time now, Twitter has been under a lot of pressure, as verified user accounts have been hacked and have been disabled for the time being, until at least the developers find a solution.
Some weird Tweets, like in the screenshot below, started popping up and asking users to send them bitcoin with the promise that they would send them back twice as much. But what was even more strange was the people who made these Tweets: Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Joe Biden are just some of the names of prominent users who were attacked.
Twitter seems to be slow enough to move, with affected users unable to even reset their password to retrieve their profiles. The problem only seems to affect users who have verified their accounts, with the company trying to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Update:
Twitter has restored the ability for verified accounts to tweet, after reporting the hack was due to a social engineering attack.
Most accounts should be able to Tweet again. As we continue working on a fix, this functionality may come and go. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.
