Huawei Kirin 1020 5nm SoC is bigger and more expensive than the Apple A14

Huawei is at present working on its Mate 40 series. These smartphones will be equipped with the upcoming 5 nm HiSilicon SoC. On the off chance that everything works out as expected, the 5 nm SoC will be launched in September.

The Huawei Mate 40 series will be the first smartphones with this new processor. According to speculation, this chip will be named Kirin 1020, but an official confirmation of this name is still pending.

According to a recently published Weibo Post, the cost of the new 5 nm Kirin chip should be between that of the Apple A14 and the Apple ARM CPU. The Huawei Kirin 1020 will, therefore, be more expensive than the Apple A14, but cheaper than the Apple ARM CPU. The size of the Huawei Kirin 1020 is said to be between the two Apple chips.

However, HiSilicon’s Kirin chip design, chip size, and costs are not the main focus at Huawei. HiSilicon is currently not under pressure to make a profit. Therefore, the chip size of HiSilicon processors for products at the same level is generally larger than that of MediaTek and Qualcomm.

Not surprisingly, Huawei’s Mate 40 series will have installed the 5 nm Kirin 1020 SoC. This will make these smartphones the first in the world to use a 5 nm chip. Since there will be delays in the Apple iPhone 12 models, Huawei will be the first smartphone manufacturer with 5 nm processors.
