Google has removed Kodi and VLC from Search based on copyright

Research from time to time proves that the number one search platform is Google Search. The tech giant is used by both experienced users and beginners alike. So he tries to keep the results he offers as clear as possible. As a result, the company made sure to remove Kodi and VLC from the search engine.

Are media players really illegal?

According to TorrentFreak, Google removed Kodi and VLC from search results because of copyright allegations. However, this seems to be a big mistake on the part of the company.

Typically, Google removes illegal content from the search engine in an attempt to keep the results “clean” and to help combat piracy. However, Kodi and VLC have nothing to do with illegal material.

How and why they were blocked

BeIN Media Group, the owner of Turkish pay-TV service Digiturk, is fighting piracy by all means. As part of its measures, beIN has recently taken a list of URLs related to the distribution of sports content to Google’s search engine.

There were several links to Kodi and VLC on this list. These are two of the most popular media players. In fact, Kodi is used by many users to organize their multimedia content, and not only.

It is not known why beIN targeted Kodi and VLC. However, Kodi’s Keith Herrington noted that content providers are occasionally targeting themselves and the VLC, without actually having any content infringement.

Code blocking and VLC

He pointed out that Google is blocking the two players without examining the requests made by the companies. While closing, stating that the tech giant is following the regular culprit until proven otherwise, with which he strongly disagrees.

Whatever the case, both players appear regularly in Google search. So, maybe the issue is resolved for now.
