Google Chrome OS is a big move and will support running Windows desktop programs such as Office

From this fall, Chromebook will support Windows applications, this upcoming integration is the result of cooperation between Google and Parallels. Both companies currently call this feature an enterprise feature, claiming to run Microsoft Office and classic Windows applications.

Chromebooks notebooks were originally Web-only devices, and they added support for Android systems a few years ago. Last year, Google introduced Linux support to enhance the influence of Chrome OS developers. Now, it adds Windows applications to the list of platforms that Chromebook will support.

John Solomon, vice president of Google Chrome OS, confirmed this announcement in today’s blog post:

“For a long time, we have been saying that almost all business roles can become cloud workers, and the COVID-19 epidemic crisis pointed out this very clearly. Therefore, the ChromeOS team is working on new methods to ensure that every company can benefit from the speed created by supporting cloud workers. For example, our new partnership with Parallels brings Chromebook classic application support, including Microsoft Office desktop applications.”

Parallels software is a virtual machine program that introduces Windows applications to the macOS system.

According to Parallels, this feature will be available to Chrome OS companies this fall.
