COVID-19 Detection Locations Will Add To Apple Maps

Apple Maps will soon directly display the COVID-19 detection location in the United States, as well as the specific information of the detection location.

Apple launched a portal website today for hospitals, healthcare providers and other companies to register as COVID-19 test sites. The Apple Maps team will review the application. After the application is approved, the location will appear on Apple Maps.

The test location will be marked with a red medical sign symbol icon and displayed with a special “COVID-19 test location” card.

Apple Maps will provide information on the names of the test sites, relevant medical institutions, contact numbers, and websites, as well as the types of test sites (hospitals, laboratories) and traffic, parking, and building conditions.

Apple also requires the applicant institution to indicate whether the test site requires a doctor referral or Apple and Google announced a partnership on Friday. The two companies will work together to provide tools to help track the spread of the new coronavirus.

Apple said the two companies will launch developer tools (APIs) in May to “make the public health department’s applications (Apps) interoperable between Android and iOS devices. These apps will be launched in the iTunes App Store and Google Play store.
